Bring and Buy
2006
In the summer of 2006, artists and writers Tom James and Tom Keeley wanted to put on a flea market in the centre of Sheffield.
They knew the local council wouldn’t allow it, so the location was kept secret and only revealed online on the eve of the event, when it was too late to stop it happening.
I was asked to make posters and flyers to secretly promote the secret event.
Having been freed up from the usual poster information (dates, times, location, etc.) I was able to focus on what actually happens at a flea market: bringing and buying. What was yours is now mine and what was mine is now yours.
Using off the shelf, ready-made ‘Special Offer’ shop signage, the posters and flyers were made by simply writing on them in marker pen. The shop signage came in a variety of sizes on heavy board, and the website (a Myspace account) was just written on the back.
The posters worked individually as well as talking to each other as a set.
420 x 253mm (poster) & 148 x 89mm (flyer).
