I’m Sorry Simon
2024

Thirty-six years ago I was four years old.

Thirty-six years ago I thought I was a shark.

Thirty-six years ago I bit a boy called Simon.

There was blood.

Simon’s mum was very upset and pulled him out of school.

I never saw Simon again.

I think about Simon regularly.

I want to believe he still lives in Sheffield.

I want to wear this T-shirt every day.

I hope that Simon sees this message in the street and we can both move on.

I’m Sorry Simon.

I’m Sorry Simon T-shirt.

Embarrassment practice

In an interview, the artist/graphic designer/film maker Mike Mills, paraphrasing Allen Ginsberg, said that if you are not somehow embarrassed by the art you are producing, then you are not going far enough with yourself, that you are not digging in the right areas. I think about this a lot.

I suppose wearing this T-shirt and, importantly, being asked about it and forced to address the petty shame, is an embarrassment practice.
