Piero Manzoni
Socle du Monde (Base of the World)

In Reference to Studio Polpo and Being the Monument.

By simply turning an artist’s plinth upside down, in 1961, Piero Manzoni made the absurd proclamation that the entire earth is a sculpture. Therefore everything is recognised as a work of art. It’s a profound idea that is completed by a simple intervening gesture: a sleight of hand magic trick.
