Seven Magic Mountains
In reference to Hybrid.
Ugo Rondinone is a Swiss artist.
Seven Magic Mountains is a public artwork located in the desert outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. It features seven thirty-five foot high fluorescent totems made from painted, locally sourced boulders.
The work builds on Nevada’s late 1960’s and early 70’s history of Land Art, as well as Pop Art. It is all about contrasts and duality: ‘between the artificial and the natural, and between the human and nature’.
As a meeting place, everybody can share and relate to the work. It draws from our universal need to play, children and adults alike, stacking stones, trying to balance them: a game.
I think they look like a giant stack of beautiful sweets.
